Vintage (1972) Collector's Botanic Garden Portmeirion Ironstone Coffee Set In Perfect Condition. The set has never been used and has from the outset, in the Seventies, been a cabinet display item. We have since downsized our home as our children have grown up and left home and we no longer have room to display many lovely things hence the sale of many beautiful items.

The set includes a large 10" coffee pot and four large full size traditional drum shaped cups and saucers (not the small demitasse types) all with different floral details including a "Scarlett Pimpernel cup and saucer. It's superb quality set. Weighs in total about 3kg.

It will be packed well to reach you intact. Lovely rather rare set in this condition. They are as new without any damage, cracks or crazing whatsoever. Portmeirion is a tourist village in Gwynedd, North Wales, UK. It was designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975 in the style of an Italian village, and is now owned by a charitable trust.

Portmeirion Pottery however is a British pottery company based in Stoke-on-Trent. Susan Williams-Ellis had been working with A. Gray for some years, commissioning designs to sell at the gift shop in Portmeirion Village, the items bearing the backstamp "Gray's Pottery Portmeirionware". These two businesses were combined and Portmeirion Potteries was born. Susan Williams-Ellis' early Portmeirion designs include Malachite (1960), Moss Agate (1961) and Talisman (1962).

In 1963 Susan created the popular Totem, an abstract pattern based in primitive forms coupled with a cylindrical shape. Botanic Garden Pottery items & Susan Williams-Ellis designs are now sought after collector's items. Susan Williams-Ellis later created Magic City (1966) and Magic Garden (1970), but arguably Portmeirion's most recognised design is the Botanic Garden range, decorated with a variety of floral illustrations adapted from Thomas Green's Universal or-Botanical, Medical and Agricultural Dictionary.

It was launched in 1972 and, with new designs added periodically, is still made today, the most successful ceramics series of botanical subjects. More recent designs have included Sophie Conran's Crazy Daisy and Dawn Chorus. Portmeirion Potteries has since changed its company name to Portmeirion Group to reflect this acquisition.
